A Mighty Heart

According to this website, Angelina Jolie's latest movie is not doing that well. It's only made $5.9 million as of June 29. At that rate the movie won't even make enough to pay the little princess her salary.

I wonder if we're finally tiring of Angelina, or is she a victim of Paris Hilton fatigue? Or is the movie a leftist revision of history which no one really cares to visit?

My vote for most "sensitive" news reader

Did you know?

"...of the 20 largest cities at mid-century, all but four have shrunk, some by a lot. Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Buffalo, NY, have all lost more than half their population in the past half-century. Philadelphia lost nearly a third of its residents, slipping to about 1.4 million people in 2006, according to estimates being released Thursday by the Census Bureau."

"Those who can’t leave or for whom it hard to leave are the ones who are left, and so what you’re left behind with is an expanding welfare class that has trouble producing and contributing to anything — and then we wonder why inner city and city schools are in such bad shape. So while the Drive-By Media would never, ever tell the truth about this, this is what happens to places when liberals run the show. It’s pure and simple. Look at what’s happening in LA — in fact, some people are leaving whole states."

"This is from the New York Sun, and it’s a story from April 20 of 2006: ‘New York State is losing more residents than any other state in the country, based on surveys taken between 2000 and 2004. The figures show that New York has replaced California as the net migration outflow leader, an average of 182,886 people leaving every year. That’s nearly double California’s average for the same period.’"

Recall Sen. Mel Martinez

There is a movement to recall Senator Mel Martinez of Florida....

During his 2004 campaign, Martinez said, "Our immigration policy should first and foremost ensure the security of our great Nation and those individuals posing a terrorist threat should be prevented from entering our country. I strongly oppose amnesty for illegal aliens; our immigration laws should not reward lawlessness."

In 2007, he flip flopped by supporting the Shamnesty Bill. Are you surprised?

In South Carolina there is a movement to dump Senator Lindsey Graham also.

Thomas Jefferson on Immigration

(It is unclear to me whether he was speaking of orderly, restricted immigration or chaotic, unrestricted immigration)

"They will bring with them the principles of the governments they leave, or if able to throw them off, it will be in exchange for an unbounded licentiousness, passing, as usual, from one extreme to the other…. In proportion to their number, they will infuse into it [the nation] their spirit, warp or bias its direction, and render it a heterogeneous, incoherent, distracted mass."

Scientology

Scientology can seem more silly than scary, with its zany mythology, made-up lingo, and Tom Cruise. But it was no joke when the group’s leaders set out to destroy investigative journalist Paulette Cooper’s life.

Israel

An amendment to the foreign aid bill that would prohibit groups that deny Israel’s right to exist from receiving American (taxpayer dollar) foreign aid was recently introduced. The amendment passed 390-30.

Of the 30 members of Congress who have no problem with giving money to groups that advocate and plan for the destruction of Israel, 27 of them were Democrats."

Liberal Talk Radio

"It’s particularly significant that, despite the left-leaning mainstream media, even in cities like New York and Chicago, liberal talk radio still can’t find an audience. The hypocrisy of the left in demanding government control of public opinion, even as it ignores mainstream media’s non-stop liberal propaganda that favors them, is staggering."

Republican Hall of Shame

These Republican Senators voted to give amnesty to millions of illegals even though a huge majority of all Americans disapproved of giving amnesty to anyone. Vote them out!

Robert Bennett of Utah
Larry Craig of Idaho
Lindsey Graham of South Carolina
Judd Gregg of New Hampshire
Chuck Hagel of Nebraska
Jon Kyl of Arizona
Trent Lott of Mississippi
Richard Lugar of Indiana
Mel Martinez of Florida
John McCain of Arizona
Olympia Snowe of Maine
Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania
Sam Brownback of Kansas

Did you know?

Nearly 6 out 10 people behind bars nationwide are black or Hispanic.

Source: CBS News

Trent Lott

Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi said recently, "Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem."

Yet a New York Times/CBSNews poll taken May 18-23 found that 69% of Americans believe that illegal immigrants should be prosecuted and deported; 82% of those surveyed said the federal government should be working harder to "keep illegal immigrants from crossing into this country." And according to a Rasmussen poll, by a two-to-one margin (60% to 28%), Americans set a higher priority on gaining control of the nation’s borders than regularizing the status of illegal immigrants, while 75% opined that it’s very important for the United States to "improve border enforcement and end illegal immigration."

Trent Lott should be shown the door during the next election, and with a swift kick in his ass as he passes through.

Sharon Stone?

Michael Moore

A nice story on Moore’s methods and honesty (or lack of) is here.

Bush is Disappointed

According to the news headlines Bush is disappointed about the defeat of the Immigration Bill. Cry me a river.

Bush should resign immediately. President Cheney should then appoint Fred Thompson as the new Vice President. Then Cheney should resign making Fred Thompson the President.

Immigration Bill

Here’s a story that illustrates, without charges of racism, emotionalism, or xenophobia, the feelings of various people on the recently defeated Immigration Bill. I give this writer an A+ for fairness and balance.

Do you think recreational drug use should be legalized?

Conservative Answer - No. Drug abuse is a cancer upon our society.

Liberal Answer - Yes, but only if the drugs are taxed, and regulated. Actually, I’ll legalize practically anything, as long as it’s heavily taxed and strictly regulated.

Libertarian Answer - Yes. People’s bodies belong to themselves—not The State. Clearly, people have a right to enjoy their own personal pursuit of happiness via drug induced diversions.

Communist Answer - No. Legalizing drugs would imply the populace was extremely unhappy, and desperately in need of some form of mind numbing escape from reality.

Former Gitmo inmate killed

Wasn't it the Liberals that told us that the inmates at Gitmo are just innocent bystanders who got swept up into the war on terrorism? This story shows they were either less than honest or downright morons....

"A man formerly held in the U.S. facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was killed Wednesday in a shootout with security agents in a restive North Caucasus republic, Russia’s top security agency said."

Only in Texas

"An unmarked police vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a police investigator and taken to Mexico, authorities said."

What the story doesn't say is that selling vehicles for insurance fraud is common on the Texas-Mexico border.

Joke of the Day

If a lawyer and an IRS agent were both drowning, and you could only save one of them, would you:

(1) go to lunch or

(2) read the paper?

One woman’s lament

Is this story an awakening of a racist or just a liberal confronting reality? I am amazed that it even found its way into print.

"I’m a white woman living in a black neighborhood, and I’m turning into a racist because of it."

Amnesty Bill Defeated

Fuck you, Bush. And Kennedy, too. And Lott. And McCain. And Graham. And all the other weasels....

Now enforce the laws that we already have!

Leftists keep students clueless

Here's another example of the dumbing down of America students....

"Ask college students, and I have, how many Stalin killed and you get the answer, ‘thousands,’" University of Pennsylvania history professor Alan Charles Kors said on June 12th at the Heritage Foundation. "That’s like saying Hitler killed hundreds of Jews."

No, it's not a crop circle

Ann Coulter

"...the left’s entire contribution to the war effort thus far has been to whine."

Men are being Screwed

"Taron James of Torrance, Calif., a decorated Navy veteran, carried out hazardous reconnaissance missions behind Iraqi lines in the aftermath of the first Persian Gulf War. While overseas, James was notified that a woman he knew back home was demanding that he pay child support for her newborn son. Los Angeles County entered a default paternity judgment against James, in part because James’ military commitments made it difficult for him to defend himself."

"Despite DNA evidence that James was not the father, the county garnisheed James’ wages for a decade and employed numerous punitive measures against him, costing him a management position and forcing him to drop out of college. James eventually got the judgment set aside, but last week a California Court of Appeal refused to order that James be reimbursed for the wages the county garnisheed."

Global Warming?

Johannesburg recorded its first confirmed snowfall for almost 26 years overnight as temperatures dropped below freezing in South Africa’s largest city, grounding flights at its main airport.

Barack Hussein Obama

He seems to have some issues that he’s in no hurry to clarify. In fact, he’s downright evasive....

Fences

Personally, I don’t believe a fence on our borders will work. I would emphasize enforcement of our existing laws that mandate fines and imprisonment on those individuals and businesses that utilize illegal workers.

However, fences are undeniably necessary at prisons, military bases, cattle ranches, and zoos. And how many homeowners in America have built fences around their properties?

Lest you forget...

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein.... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction.... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."
---John Kerry

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
---Bill Clinton

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
---Al Gore"

... [I]ntelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members.... if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
---Hillary Clinton

A View of Islam in 1946

"33 years before the Iranian Revolution and 55 years before the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a section (pages 24-34) of the very first of the intelligence reviews published by the Military Intelligence Division of the U.S. War Department identified Islam as a threat to world stability. It would be interesting to know how many of the higher-ups in our intelligence agencies and Defense Department were even aware of this report when the hijacked planes slammed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the Pennsylvania ground."

"According to its authors, Islamic countries were "full of discontent and frustration" and were aware of their "inferiority." These feelings manifested themselves in "killings and terrorism," which were reported in "daily news accounts." The analysts knew about the feud between the Sunnis and Shi’a. They also knew about Wahabism and the Muslim Brotherhood."

Immigration

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt, 1907

Abortion

This man will thankfully never be president of anything...

"New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson said Friday that if he is elected president, he would use abortion as a litmus test for Supreme Court nominees, rejecting candidates who don’t support the 1973 decision legalizing abortion."

"I know that I am going to upset some people," Richardson said. "I would say, ‘Do you believe Roe v. Wade is settled law?’ and if they say, ‘Yes,’ they have a good chance of being picked. If they say ‘No,’ I will not pick them."

Experts

Here’s another group of experts who made fools of themselves....

"The concept is interesting and well-formed, but in order to earn better than a ‘C,’ the idea must be feasible."
—A Yale University management professor in response to Fred Smith’s paper proposing reliable overnight delivery service. (Smith went on to found Federal Express Corp.)

"I’m just glad it’ll be Clark Gable who’s falling on his face and not Gary Cooper."
—Gary Cooper on his decision not to take the leading role in "Gone With The Wind."

"A cookie store is a bad idea. Besides, the market research reports say America likes crispy cookies, not soft and chewy cookies like you make."
—Response to Debbi Fields’ idea of starting Mrs. Fields’ Cookies.

"We don’t like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out."
—Decca Recording Co. rejecting the Beatles, 1962.

"Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible."
—Lord Kelvin, president, Royal Society, 1895.

"You want to have consistent and uniform muscle development across all of your muscles? It can’t be done. It’s just a fact of life. You just have to accept inconsistent muscle development as an unalterable condition of weight training."
—Response to Arthur Jones, who solved the "unsolvable" problem by inventing Nautilus.

"Drill for oil? You mean drill into the ground to try and find oil? You’re crazy."
—Drillers who Edwin L. Drake tried to enlist to his project to drill for oil in 1859.

"Stocks have reached what looks like a permanently high plateau."
—Irving Fisher, Professor of Economics, Yale University, 1929.

"Airplanes are interesting toys but of no military value."
—Marschal Ferdinand Foch, Professor of Strategy, Ecole Superieure de Guerre in France.

Rationing in Iran

Can you believe that Iran, sitting on millions of barrels of oil, is importing gasoline?

"Iran, which imports more than 40 percent of the gasoline it uses, will run out of funds to import the commodity in early August, forcing the country to either increase its budget for imports or start rationing."

Democrats attack Thompson

It didn’t take the Dummocats long to see Thompson as a genuine threat to their election plans. Their initial hit piece is rather lame and not very informative. It’s very revealing that Thompson is considered a threat when he hasn’t even declared his candidacy yet.

26% Flat Tax Rate

We should all learn from the tiny country of Estonia....

"Estonia adopted a 26% flat tax in 1994 and never looked back. Combined with other free–market reforms, the flat tax has helped Estonia become one of the world’s fastest–growing economies. Tallinn is now a boom town, filled with expensive cars, elegant shops, trendy restaurants and new construction. Estonia’s system is not a completely pure version of the flat tax model. But it is remarkably free from distortions, exemptions, loopholes and penalties. The flat rate applies to both personal income and business income."

Good News!

While I respect McCain's service to his country and his torture by the barbarians in North Viet Nam, he just wasn't cut out to be a president. Sorry, John, but it's not to be.

"The former presidential front-runner, John McCain, may drop out of the 2008 race by September if his fundraising dries up and his poll ratings continue to drop, according to Republican insiders."

Salman Rushdie

"Britain got so many things wrong during the Rushdie affair, just as America got so many things wrong during the Iranian embassy siege 10 years earlier. But it’s now 2007 – almost two decades after Iran claimed sovereignty over British subjects (Rushdie), almost three decades after they claimed sovereignty over American territory (the U.S. Embassy in Tehran). So what have we learned?"

Jobs that Americans won’t do....

If this doesn't stop the shamnesty fiasco, nothing will.

"The Programmers Guild, a professional organization in Summit, N.J., has posted a video (see below) on YouTube LLC’s Web site featuring excerpts from a series of videos that had been posted previously by Pittsburgh-based law firm Cohen & Grigsby PC. The law firm’s videos were recorded May 15 during a seminar and apparently were intended to provide free legal tips to hiring managers and other viewers. But the video put together by the Programmers Guild is providing explosive material for H-1B critics."

More Experts

Yesterday, I posted a number of quotes from so-called experts. Here’s a few more....

"The wireless music box has no imaginable commercial value. Who would pay for a message sent to nobody in particular?"
David Sarnoff’s associates in response to his urgings for investment in the radio in the 1920s.

Newsweek smearing Thompson

Although Fred Thompson has yet to formally announce that he is running for President, the media are already looking for ways to take down his campaign and make Thompson less appealing to Republican primary voters. Thompson, referred to as "a Southern-fried Reagan" by the Southern Baptist Convention’s Richard Land, was the subject of an article in the June 25 issue of Newsweek magazine that ran with the subtitle: "The right has a crush on Fred Thompson, but his own papers suggest he is less conservative then they think."

Comanches

If you like history, especially Texas history, the book "Comanches" by T. R. Fehrenbach is one hell of a good read. You'll find out why Mexican settlers never got much beyond San Antonio and you will discover why no one on the early frontier would have much use for the concept of the "noble savage."

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms
What more could you ask for?

Soccer

Today the U.S. and Mexico meet in a soccer match in Chicago. The story says,"You get the greatest international sports rivalry in North America with each team wishing it had just a little bit of what the other one has."

I just wish the Mexico team supporters would show a little respect. They are just below the English hooligans in their hate-mongering and xenophobia.

In Germany, believing abortion to be as murderous as the holocaust is a crime, and educating your own children is a crime too. In France, saying that “homosexual behaviour endangers the survival of humanity” is a crime, and so is the distribution of pork soup to the poor. In Belgium, speaking out against immigration is a crime.

Chemical Ali

Hasn't he ever heard of Karma?

Today in Baghdad, "Ali Hassan Al-Majid, a cousin of executed former president Saddam Hussein, was convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes for ordering army and security services to use chemical weapons in an offensive said to have killed some 180,000 people during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war" and was sentenced by the court to be hanged until dead.

6-year old suicide bomber

Children as young as six are being used by the Taliban in increasingly desperate suicide missions, coalition forces in Afghanistan claimed yesterday.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), to which Britain contributes 5,000 troops in southern Afghanistan, revealed that soldiers defused an explosive vest which had been placed on a six-year-old who had been told to attack Afghan army forces in the east of the country.

The appeasers of evil

An article in Ha’aretz furnishes a revealing insight into how the media’s finest fabricate fairy stories — sorry, fearlessly ferret out the facts about the Middle East. The Last Days of Europe: Epitaph for an Old Continent

Is Europe in its last days and slowly losing itself to multiculturism? Europe is on a course of rejecting Christianity and the acceptance of almost anything else. Austin Hate Crime?

Four black men kill a Hispanic passenger in a car that struck a young girl in Austin.

Less than 24 hours later, without any arrests, Austin Police Department spokesman Cdr Harold Piatt pronounces to the press, "This wasn’t a hate crime. This wasn’t a racist crime. There is absolutely no reason to think race had anything to do with this."

So how does the good commander know this? No suspects in custody and he declares "absolutely" that it is just an ordinary, random street crime.

My, my, the Austin Police Department must be hiring psychics nowadays.

Fairness Doctrine

The Liberals are agitating to muzzle, stifle, or at least, to limit the impact of the Conservative footprint on the radio waves. Never mind that Air America was an abject failure, the Liberals want to force broadcasters to offer more programming favorable to themselves.

And as soon as the radio waves are 50% Liberal and 50% Conservative, the next logical step is to do the same at ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, PBS, and all the major newspapers, right?

Only in your dreams, sucker.

Do we see a trend here?

Either the U.S. is beginning to resemble the U.K. or the U.K. is beginning to resemble the U.S.

The super-rich are using loopholes to avoid paying £2billion a year in income tax, official figures have revealed.

Only one in six of those earning more than £10million a year is paying tax on their earnings - with the rest using loopholes to dodge the burden.

The revelation will fuel anger over the private equity tycoons who are making vast fortunes while the gap between rich and poor widens.

Send Congress Home?

I like the way this guy thinks. Here’s some quotes from one of his recent posts...

"...anyone who thinks violence does not solve problems should remember that War made America independent, ended slavery, defeated Hitler, and kicked Saddam’s @ss all the way to his deserved hanging."

"...why don’t we just send congress home?"

Now it’s Global Cooling

Just when I was starting to warm up to the idea of Global Warming...

"Solar scientists predict that, by 2020, the sun will be starting into its weakest Schwabe solar cycle of the past two centuries, likely leading to unusually cool conditions on Earth. Beginning to plan for adaptation to such a cool period, one which may continue well beyond one 11-year cycle, as did the Little Ice Age, should be a priority for governments."

"It is global cooling, not warming, that is the major climate threat to the world, especially Canada. As a country at the northern limit to agriculture in the world, it would take very little cooling to destroy much of our food crops, while a warming would only require that we adopt farming techniques practiced to the south of us."

Throw off the Veil of the Invader

The woman nominated by India’s ruling Congress party to become the country’s first female president was at the centre of a national furore yesterday after she urged Muslims to throw away their veils.

Pratabha Patil appeared relatively uncontroversial when she was put forward by Congress last week for the largely ceremonial but symbolically important post. Seen as a moderate Hindu, the only criticism levelled at the 72-year-old governor of Rajasthan was that she lacked national stature.

By yesterday, however, Mrs Patil’s name was on the lips of Muslim leaders, who accused her of insulting Islam. Outraged by her comment that the veil has been imported to India by Muslim invaders, they are calling on Congress to ditch her and choose a more secular presidential candidate.

Nifong’s legacy, feminism’s shame

It is tempting to convince oneself that Nifong’s banishment means that all is right in the Dukedom. Doubtless, many among Duke’s faculty and administration, as well as random race-baiters, campus feminists, various reporters, commentators and assorted armchair prosecutors would prefer that no one remember their roles in advancing the Nifong farce. (KC Johnson, Brooklyn College history professor, has it all on his Durham-in-Wonderland blog.)

But they shouldn’t get off so easily. All were participants in the scurrilous witch hunt that unfolded during the past year. All were congregants in the PC Church that sanctifies certain groups as unassailable victims (all minorities and females) and others as condemnable perps (all males, but especially descendants of history’s white oppressors).

Anne Coulter throws in her two cents in her latest column.

Milton Friedman, 1998

"Our drug policy has led to thousands of deaths and enormous loss of wealth in countries like Colombia, Peru and Mexico, and has undermined the stability of their governments. All because we cannot enforce our laws at home. If we did, there would be no market for imported drugs. There would be no Cali cartel. The foreign countries would not have to suffer the loss of sovereignty involved in letting our advisers and troops operate on their soil, search their vessels and encourage local militaries to shoot down their planes. They could run their own affairs, and we, in turn, could avoid the diversion of military forces from their proper function."

Tom Delay speaks

Delay makes a few good points in this story but fails to mention that Republicans just don’t have any balls nowadays...

He seems not to notice that it has been the Republicans who have failed to fight back. He doesn't mention how they cower and grovel in fear of losing votes. In fact, by not fighting back they are losing more than votes, they are destroying their party.

Texas Hospitals

California isn't the only state with struggling hospitals....

"As the Houston area struggles to deal with a rising tide of uninsured, it offers a lesson for the nation: Let the problem get out of hand — to a point where nearly 1 in 3 people have no coverage — and you won’t just have a less healthy population. You’ll have an overwhelmed health care system."

I've been to a lot of concerts and biker rallies and visits to the park on Sundays but I've never seen anything like this or this or this.

Conspiracy

"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the Field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organised, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it."

I've always wondered what Woodrow Wilson was speaking about in 1913.

Bush pretending to enforce immigration laws

We all know that the Democrat and Republican leadership wants amnesty for our illegal immigrants. Today’s raids are only window dressing to keep the people - that’s you and me - thinking they actually want to enforce the laws that they have ignored for the past 20 or 30 years. Two raids were conducted here and here.

Be strong, Honey

A man escapes from prison where he’s been locked up for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns. Inside, he finds a young couple in bed. He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair. While tying the homeowner’s wife to the bed, the convict kisses her neck, then goes into the bathroom.

While he’s in there, the husband whispers to his wife, "Listen, this guy is an escaped convict. Look at his clothes! He’s probably spent a lot of time in jail and hasn’t seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don’t resist, don’t complain. Do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is obviously very dangerous. If he gets angry, he’ll kill us both! Be strong, honey. I love you."

His wife responds, "He wasn’t kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me he’s gay, thinks you're cute and asked if we have any Vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong, honey. I love you, too."

Puzzling Photo

It's most likely just a natural formation but some people are straining to see more than is obvious in this photo of the Moon.

Disposable Cell Phones

Some stories are utterly incomprehensible to me. Especially when the FBI seems to be asleep at the wheel. Debbie Schlussel keeps her eye on them....

"Remember the bulk, disposable TracFone cellphone purchasers—Ali Houssaiky and Osama Sobhi Abulhassan—who were arrested in Southern Ohio, last year."

"The Dearbornistan residents admitted to Washington County Sheriffs that they knew what they were doing was wrong and that the phones wouldn’t be going for a good purpose."

"Remember the three Jerusalem-born Palestinians—Adham Abdelhamid Othman, Maruan Awad Muhareb, and Louai Abdelhamied Othman—also arrested, last summer for doing the same thing? They had a computer program, which altered the phones to rip off free cellular service from any phone company anywhere in the world. And they had photos of the grates of Michigan’s Mackinac Bridge. Hardly 'touristy'."

A limo built into an 18-wheeler....This would definitely turn some heads at your next party or wedding. It's probably a little too expensive for proms, unless you are very wealthy.

Democrats mull dividing House immigration bill

The massive outpouring of opposition to the immigration bill has had an effect....

"House Democrats say they may break the immigration issue up into a series of smaller bills that would put off the tougher parts and allow others to pass, such as border security, and high-tech and agriculture worker programs that have clear support. That could buy Democrats more time to work out the tougher aspects of immigration, such as what to do about the estimated 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens now here, but it would go against the Senate’s massive catchall approach and contradicts President Bush’s call for a broad bill to pass."

Arafat’s Children

Gaza’s mayhem is the bitter fruit of terror as statecraft.

"Scores of Palestinians were killed this week in Gaza in factional fighting between loyalists of President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah and those of Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas. As if on cue, it took about 24 hours before pundits the world over blamed the violence on Israel and President Bush."

100 million deaths and Mainstream Media Yawns

On Tuesday (of last week) President Bush condemned the past and present evils of communism during the official commemoration of a new memorial. Shaped like a woman holding a flame, the statue was dedicated in honor of over 100 million people who died within just one century as the result of communism.

During his commemoration speech, the president said that the number of victims sacrificed to this ideology is "staggering". Communism has swept through many nations, including China, the Soviet Union, North Korea, Cambodia, Africa, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Eastern Europe.

Climate Police

Climatepolice.com is dedicated to promoting an open exchange and dialog on climate change. To achieve that goal, research and articles with alternate views on climate change will be the primary sources of news and information on this site. We will not include any news or information with sensationalist claims; only sources with sound scientific evidence or research will be used.

Snarky Quote

"Five years ago, Middle Eastern extremists were killing Israelis and Americans. Today they are killing each other. Why is it that some people persist in claiming that Israel’s and America’s Middle East policy is a failure?" — Alan Chamberlain

Observations from a Philosophy Professor

This conservative professor from the University of Texas at Arlington has some interesting observations....

Universities are no longer in the truth business; they are in the comfort business.

There should be a term limit on members of Congress, as there is on the presidency. I propose 12 years and out: two terms for senators, six for members of the House of Representatives.

Progressives are childish, which is why they can’t be entrusted with governance.

There should be strict separation between science and state.

Self Rule for the Palestinians?

Looters raid Arafat’s home, steal Nobel Peace Prize.

The Jerusalem Post reports, "They stole almost everything inside the house, including Arafat’s Nobel Peace Prize medal .. they stole all the widow’s clothes and shoes."

Israel Matzav asks, "How much would you pay for a Nobel Peace Prize on E-Bay?"

"Sometimes humiliation isn’t something other people do to you as much as something you do to yourself. This was foreshadowed by the looting of the multi-million dollar greenhouses bequeathed to the Palestinian people. It continued with the bombing of the Internet cafes, the attacks on hospitals, the burning of music stores. It goes on every time delighted gunmen fire their automatic rifles in the air and are surprised to find the bullets eventually come down and kill somebody. Every time a 'militant' blows up a bridge, or a power pylon, an oil pipeline or a beautiful seaside resort, it is not a glorious event. That’s just the fantasy of an over-wrought journalist. Plainly speaking, it’s just another bullet in the foot."

Isaac Newton also took a keen interest in superstitions of his day that have long since fallen foul of modern science. Newton spent four years in the 1670's preparing a work on alchemy, the notion that base metals can be turned into gold.

Welcome to California

Mark Steyn skews California and its governor....

"And, if becoming a charge of the state is the issue, then Gov. Schwarzenegger is a complete squish on California’s real health crisis. His state’s emergency rooms have been reduced to Quebec-level waiting times because of the strains of providing free health care to the legions of the undocumented. One third of the patients in Los Angeles County hospitals are illegal immigrants, and they’ve overwhelmed the system: dozens of emergency rooms in the state have closed this decade after degenerating into an unfunded de facto Mexican health care network. If you’re a legal resident of California, your health system is worse than it was a decade ago and will be worse still in a decade’s time."

Not to worry, Governor, federal funds (our taxes) will bail you out.

Dysfunctional Mexico

Is there such a thing as ‘good news’ from Mexico? Stories such as this one continue the trend of bad news....

"In the eight years since the Zetas were organized, more than 120,000 Mexican soldiers have deserted the army, according to the government’s records. Yet the country’s defense officials have made little effort to track their whereabouts, security experts said, creating a potential pool of military-trained killers for the drug-trafficking gangs wreaking havoc in the country."

Ain't it the truth?

Mainstream Media

Our liberal media are hysterics and hypochondriacs, obsessed with meaningless trivia for the purposes of managing and channeling collective anxiety, including their own. You might remember, for example, that prior to 9/11, all of the networks were obsessed with the Gary Condit affair, day in, day out. Then something real came along — 9/11 — which rendered the Condit affair totally meaningless, even though it had been utterly meaningless before.

The American Left’s Silly Victim Complex

Tell it like it is! This story sums up the leftists with wit and humor. Should we laugh or cry?

The American left has turned into a skittish, hysterical old lady, one who defiantly insists on living in the past, is easily mesmerized by half-baked pseudo-intellectual nonsense, and quick to run from anything like real conflict or responsibility ...

No matter what it claims for a self-image, in reality it’s the saddest collection of cowering, ineffectual ninnies ever assembled under one banner on God’s green earth. And its ugly little secret is that it really doesn’t mind being in the position it’s in – politically irrelevant and permanently relegated to the sidelines, tucked into its cozy little cottage industry of polysyllabic, ivory tower criticism.

Archeologists not always scientific

This story doesn’t fit into the scientific narrative so it is ignored....

"It not only threatened to trash the American paradigm of prehistory, it would also trash the Old World paradigm for the last phases of human evolution. This was serious. There were modern stone tools in Mexico that were 200,000 years older than the earliest modern tools in Europe and Asia and Africa. It was nuts. It was impossible any way you looked at it."

Italians are Clueless

Armed robberies of Italian banks and building societies have soared after a controversial prisoner amnesty in the country’s crowded jails.

Last year’s indulto, or pardon, for prisoners with less than three years left to serve caused uproar.

More than 15,000 inmates were released. Within hours, dozens had been arrested and sent back to jail after reoffending. New crime figures have again fuelled the controversy.

The number of bank robberies has risen nationwide, official statistics say, including a staggering 102 per cent increase in Piedmont, in the north.

You want cheap goods, don’t you?

The next time you go to Wal-Mart or Costco or any of those places that have cheap prices, remember this story. This is the direct result of the never-ending search for cheap goods. We are importing pet food that kills our pets and now toothpaste that also kills.

After a drug ingredient from China killed dozens of Haitian children a decade ago, a senior American health official sent a cable to her investigators: Find out who made the poisonous ingredient and why a state-owned company in China exported it as safe, pharmaceutical-grade glycerin.

The Chinese were of little help. Requests to find the manufacturer were ignored. Business records were withheld or destroyed.

Hide the Salami

Hey guys, the next time you decline a woman's advances and decide to be faithful to your wife or girlfriend you might remember the outcome of this story....

A woman who ripped off her ex-boyfriend’s testicle with her bare hands has been sent to prison.
Amanda Monti, 24, flew into a rage when Geoffrey Jones, 37, rejected her advances at the end of a house party, Liverpool Crown Court heard.

She pulled off his left testicle and tried to swallow it, before spitting it out. A friend handed it back to Mr Jones saying: "That’s yours."

Father’s Day Quote

My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, "You’re tearing up the grass."

A History of Israel

A nice slideshow of the creation of Israel and the wars that followed.

The Culture of Public Education

Jesus, can it be said any better? Another big Thank You to the Liberals...

While excuse makers and vacillating politicians bicker over immigration and No Child Left Behind, public education’s politically correct culture continues its noxious indoctrination of those confined inside its system. The kinder and gentler social experiments that masquerade as modern pedagogy are brainwashing many students into a bunch of low-achieving, over-sensitive, undisciplined, and dimwitted wimps. How anyone remains perplexed over floundering classroom performance eludes comprehension. The problem is in "the culture."

Attorneys sue site that comes up with ratings

...on lawyers

A lawsuit filed Thursday against Avvo.com aims directly at the Seattle startup’s distinctive feature — a system of rating attorneys across the country on a scale of one to 10.

The plaintiffs, John Henry Browne and Alan Wenokur, are practicing lawyers in Seattle who called the system unfair.

They think their ratings, 5.2 and 6.5, respectively, were uncharacteristic of their experience, industry recognition and professional conduct.

Fences

Fences work. That’s why people have them around their houses — not because homeowners are unwelcoming, but because they insist that those who wish to come into their domain knock at the front door.

Did you know?

Helen Duncan was arrested during World War II after holding a seance where she claimed the spirit of a sailor from HMS Barham told her his ship had been sunk. Problem was, the Barham’s sinking was then still a military secret, and authorities feared Duncan might reveal details about the impending D-Day invasion, presumably also obtained from supernatural sources. She was tried under the Witchcraft Act of 1735 and sentenced to nine months in jail. Although the act was repealed in 1951, the UK has refused to grant Duncan a posthumous pardon.

Democrats celebrating Flag Day

Question and Answer

From the Right Wing News...

Question: "Who do you want to win, Hamas or Fatah?"

Answer: Well, first off, I’d like to see the fighting drag on and be as long and bloody as possible. After all, the more they fight each other, the less time they have to murder Jews.

But, in the end, I’d prefer to see Hamas win. Now that may seem counter-intuitive, but there’s not two dime’s worth of difference between Hamas and Fatah. In fact, the only real difference between them is that Fatah is willing to give lip service to peace talks, which is good enough to convince naive Westerners that they’re serious. Hamas won’t even do that — which, in the long run is probably a good thing.

Here’s the reality: Hamas is evil, Fatah is evil, and honestly, even though Americans hate to believe such a thing about another group of people, most of the average people on the street are evil.

So, since we’re talking about an evil group of people, it’s better that they have an evil group like Hamas as their "face." That way, they’ll get less sympathy, less foreign aid, and the Israelis will have a freer hand to deal with them.

Post-Democracy

If you've wondered where the European Union is going, this story says it best....

‘Post democracy’ is a term coined by Colin Crouch in an excellent pamphlet for the Fabian Society and more recently here. Basically it means that with the great complication that exists in the modern world, it is only reasonable that our governance is expropriated by those with the intellectual capacity to deal it. The common mass, ignorant and stupid as they are, are not equipped to comprehend the intricacy of politics. (Prof Crouch is not an exemplar of this approach though he sympathises with it).

It is a concept that has been taken up with alacrity by many on the inside track in Brussels. European Commissioner Peter Mandelson was referring to this when in a speech in Germany he uttered the infamous words "the era of pure representative democracy is slowly coming to an end."

N.O.W. Files Lawsuit to Abolish Father’s Day

Even though it's A satire it's not beyond their agenda....

The National Organization for Women (NOW) and other women advocacy groups have filed suit against the Bush Administration seeking to abolish Fathers Day. During a press conference held after the filing of the lawsuit, Kim Gandy of NOW said, "the day clearly indicates that it is meant to recognize only fathers."

Iran

I believe Iran's economy will tank before they ever develop any nuclear weapons....

"Iran started the first phase of gasoline rationing on Thursday, limiting fuel that drivers of government cars can buy, but many Iranians are still confused about how and when the full rationing plan would be in place."

"Despite big energy reserves, Iran lacks refining capacity to meet domestic fuel demand, which analysts say is rising at about 10 percent a year. Heavy subsidies which drain state coffers make fuel so cheap it encourages waste, analysts say."

Sexual Attitudes

It's not really surprising to me "that men are more preoccupied with sex than women are, but both genders get in touch with their inner feelings when they bond in an intimate relationship."

"Men experience a lot of pressure in our society to have sex with a number of different partners, the opposite of what women experience as kind of the gatekeepers of sexuality," said Paul Perrin, a UF graduate student in psychology and one of the study’s researchers. "Once they enter a relationship, however, the pressure on men to have sex is not as strong and the pressure on women to not have sex goes away."

Public Schools

Thanks to the Liberals, the dumbing down of our school system continues....

In a blistering series, the Post has documented how badly the bureaucrats have run public education. More than half of the District of Columbia’s kids spend their days in "persistently dangerous" schools, with an average of nine violent incidents a day in a system with 135 schools.

"Principals reporting dangerous conditions or urgently needed repairs in their buildings wait, on average, 379 days … for the problems to be fixed," according to the Post. But hey, at least the kids are getting a lousy education. A mere 19 schools managed to get "proficient" scores or better for a majority of students on the district’s Comprehensive Assessment Test.

Did you know?

Haight’s Summer of Love wasn’t even cool. Here’s the verdict of George Harrison, who visited in early August: "You know, I went to Haight-Ashbury expecting it to be this brilliant place, and it was just full of horrible, spotty, dropout kids on drugs." Far from making him, in Timothy Leary’s phrase, want to "turn on, tune in, drop out", Harrison vowed to stop using LSD.

Angelina Jolie

After reading the public's responses to Jolie's restrictions on the press, it doesn't look like she's America's princess yet, or any day soon....

"I do not know why everyone pays so much attention to this awful actress. It is also hard to accept the amount of tattoo’s she has on her body. SO SOO…TRASHY"

"She’s very strange…."

"Angelina Jolie collects knives, has an interest in mortuary science, had a childhood dream of becoming a funeral director, and has all of the tattoos and someone says that the journalists are the 'white trash'???"

"For Angelina Jolie to dictate what news organizations are even allowed to cover the event is plain and simple hypocrisy. Has she forgotten what country she is in?"

Global Warming or Climate Change?

Global warming alarmists are a clever bunch. They have very carefully changed the issue from "global warming" to "climate change." Now any change in weather, be it mild winters or cool summers can be attributed to "climate change." Whatever the weather, the news is very bad.

In a sane world...

Instead of holding demonstrations in cities across this country, making demands of U.S. officials, pro-illegal immigration activists should be leading protests in Mexico City, making demands of Mexican officials (to reform their shithole of a country).

No Drug Smuggler Left Behind

Ann Coulter’s latest column nails Bush on his *cough* enforcement of our immigration laws.

"The only Hispanics Bush seems to prosecute are the ones who are law-abiding U.S. citizens."

Improvised Explosive Defeat?

"There may be an unlimited supply of explosives in Iraq, but there is not an unlimited supply of people who know how to wire the detonators. In 2004, CIA operatives in Iraq believed that they had identified the signatures of 11 bomb makers. They proposed a diabolical — but potentially effective — sabotage program that would have flooded Iraq with booby-trapped detonators designed to explode in the bomb makers’ hands. But the CIA general counsel’s office said no. The lawyers claimed that the agency lacked authority for such an operation, one source recalled."

Lawyers say no....Can you believe it? No wonder we are struggling over there.

KGB Defector

Did you know?

Many people — Lefty and Righty alike — charge "greedy" petro execs of fixing petro prices high. Yet petro companies report a constant profit margin of only 10% both during their lean, low-price years of the 1990s and today’s reality of high prices and high profits. Meanwhile, consumer taxes from local, state, and federal agencies nab about 30% of what consumers pay at the pump. And we all know that a lack of refineries in the US, due to environmental regulations, contributes as well to US pump prices, surely more than the profit margin. Source

Al Gore

In a September 29, 1992 policy speech Senator Al Gore piled on President Bush for ignoring the threat to world peace by Saddam Hussein.

I'm shocked! I'm shocked not by the speech but how this weasel has done an about face. But then again haven't all the democrats done the same?

"I'm a Fredhead"

Domestic Abuse

Here's a story that caught my eye because you will never see it on the nightly news or in the mainstream media. The Politically Correct crowd just doesn't want you to know because it runs counter to their agenda.

"...violent domestic abuse is as common and as severe among gay and lesbian couples as among heterosexuals."

Che Guevara

He’s the ultimate symbol of radical chic but was Che Guevara really a homophobic, racist square who personally ordered the jailing and executions of innocent men, women and children?

- Twice, Che plotted terrorist attacks against New York City. In November 1962, the FBI cracked a terrorist plot by Cuban agents who targeted Macy’s, Gimbel’s, Bloomingdale’s and Grand Central Terminal. They planned to blow up those landmarks with 12 incendiary devices and 500 kilos of TNT the day after Thanksgiving. Several months before visiting New York in December 1964 and being feted by the toast of the city’s intelligentsia, Che hatched a plan with the Black Liberation Army to blow up the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell and the Washington Monument. The plotters were infiltrated in 1965 by a sharp-eyed NYPD cadet.

- Che detested rock and roll and railed against "long hairs," "lazy youths," and homosexuals. At one point, he wrote that the young must always "listen carefully - and with the utmost respect – to the advice of their elders who held governmental authority."

- Che sidelined black Cubans and mocked those who were part of the revolutionary movement. He once told radio host Luis Pons, "We’re going to do for blacks exactly what blacks did for the revolution. By which I mean: nothing."

- Che personally ordered 700 executions by firing squad, which he supervised at his jungle headquarters in Cuba. He also hosted book burnings, torching thousands of books owned by suspect intellectuals and librarians.

Extreme off-road

Here are some great photos of a group of extreme off-roaders and their crazy hobby.

Did you know?

In 2005, there were more than 645,000 victims of cross-racial violent crimes between blacks and whites in the U.S.

In 90 percent of those crimes, black offenders attacked white victims.

Only whites can commit hate crimes

"The truth is, we are never permitted to contemplate the truth about race and crime. Most interracial crime involves blacks harming whites, and federal statistics show that blacks commit more hate crimes than whites. The news media’s stiff-necked refusal to report these facts is escalating and indisputable, as several recent cases show, and invites us to question why so many news professionals—so dedicated to disclosing so many unwelcome facts about so many subjects—are so unwilling to examine this one. "Liberal media bias" isn’t the only answer. Something else is at work."

Which celebrity do you look like?

Here's a website that claims to find which celebrity you look like.

Anyway, I wasn't expecting to see Brad Pitt.
